Sarah Jane Pallister was the first child of Thomas Pallister & Isabella Nasbitt christened May 14th, 1854 at All Saints, Lanchester, Co Durham.
In 1861 Sarah Jane was living with her parents & 2 sisters & 2 brothers at Hornsby Hill, Lanchester where her father was a butcher.
Sarah Jane was still living at home at Ornsby Hill in 1871 & she now had 7 sisters & 3 brothers.
On November 20th, 1875 Sarah Jane married Moses Dormand, a widower, in the parish of St Andrew’s, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Moses was christened November 11th, 1849 at Whickham, the son of Ann Brown & John Dormand. John Dormand was responsible for, & joint owner of a new colliery close to Lanchester. This occasion in June 1868 was much celebrated by the village of Lanchester.
In 1881 Sarah Jane & Moses were living at 160 Albert Rd, Hedworth Monkton & Jarrow & Moses was a brick & pipe manufacturer. They had 3 children by this time – John P (4), Thomas G (3) & Arthur H (1). They also had a domestic servant.
By 1887 the family had moved south to Danby, N. Yorks where Moses was manager of a pottery.
By 1891 the family had returned north to 8 Georges Rd, Wallsend, Northumberland & Moses had the same occupation. The family had grown & as well as John, a grocer’s apprentice, Thomas, Arthur Head, they also had Sidney (8), Mabel, (6) & Hubert (1).
Son John married Letitia Maud Nicholson in Jan-March 1900 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne & in 1901 was working as a marine engineer & living with Letitia’s parents in Elswick, Newcastle.
Sarah Jane & Moses were still living in Wallsend in 1901, now at 9 James Terrace. At home were Thomas, a draughtsman, Arthur, a tailor, Sidney, a butcher, Mabel, Hubert & Ada (5). Moses was now a clerk, book keeper.
In 1911 the family were living at The Avenue, Wallsend & Moses was now a storekeeper at the shipyard. Still living at home were Thomas Gladstone, a naval draughtsman at the shipyard, Arthur Head, a tailor, Sidney Addison, a butcher, Hubert Moorhouse, a butcher & Ada. Daughter Mabel Isabella & her husband William Nattress, an analytical chemist at the copper works, were also living with them.
Son Arthur served as a mechant seaman during WW1 & sons Sidney & Hubert served as gunners with the Royal Garrison Artillery.
Sarah Jane died, aged 66, in Jan-March 1921 in Tynemouth, Northumberland.
Son Hubert married Beatrice Sutherland in April-June 1921 in Sunderland.
Daughter Ada married Robert G Little in April-June 1924 at Tynemouth.
Son Sidney & his wife Jane G (nee Edington) & their 2 children emigrated to Melbourne, Australia in January 1926. He was listed on the ship manifest as a butcher. A notice of death for Sidney in 1951 mentions his children, Peg & Bill.
Moses died on December 19th, 1934 at 8 Bloomfield Avenue, Walkerville, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Probate was granted on April 18th, 1935 to daughter Ada Holt Little, wife of Robert Graham Little & his effects were £381.17s.6d.
